Top 10 Reasons Why I Blog

I've got blogging on the brain.  My Google Reader is practically exploding with the 100s of blogs I follow, and I'm always amazed by the difference between them.  Some bloggers share their thoughts and experiences, some share news and information, some share giveaways and deals, some share a random combination of everything.  So I got to thinking about why I blog.  Here are my....

Top 10 Reasons Why I Blog:

10) To vent without being interrupted

9)  To express myself in a way I'm unable to do verbally

8)  To "meet" new people

7)  To bring people together

6)  To hone my writing skills

5)  To make myself publicly accountable for private goals

4)  To be a part of a community and use that community for advice and support

3)  To help me appreciate the joys in my life

2)  To learn more about myself

1)  To share my thoughts and experiences in the hopes that others who may be going through the same things know they aren't alone

What tops your list?

  5. I didn't know why I started blogging originally. I just felt like I "needed" to blog. Like a couple of weeks later, the subject of the Army came up, and lo and behold, a whole world of milwives was open to me, and I don't think I would have found it otherwise. So I am very thankful for my blog and BBs. It's been my lifeline through all of this.

  6. I agree totally! Your list is pretty much exactly what mine would be had I thought of making one. I think I would just add that I started my blog as something that was for ME, after three years in Mommyland I felt I needed to just do something so decided to blog. Little did I know all the rewards it would bring, like new friends such as you.

  8. Blogging is cheap therapy! I also do it to show the other side of motherhood -the often dirtier, less PC side that sometimes gets left under the rug. :P

I do have separate blogs. My mom/military one is far more tame than my personal blog meant for wider audience viewing. My other blog (limited view to certain readers) is filled with daily drivel of whatever pops into mind. It's less theme oriented and more "dirty" for lack of a better word (I'm not talking porn, I just mean that it's more in depth and personal).

  9. Excellent list! I started blogging so that I would have some accountability for actually writing. Now that's a part of it, but I'm definitely in love with the blogging community - such a warm and fabulous group...

  10. I started blogging to vent about the problems I was having the move overseas and getting a stinkin' passport. I figured I could do it anonymously and would say whatever. Once I got into it, I was hooked, and I found I had a lot more to talk about than just my gripes (which I still talk about). Then I found all the milspouse blogs- I love it!!!

  11. What a great post! I always look forward to reading your blog :) I do on a regular basis :)
I blog for mainly the same reasons as you. It's a great way to express yourself, especially those things we tend to bury deep inside ourselves. I have gotten so much encouragement and support through blogs. :)

  13. hi:
I really like your #5 and may have to add that to my list!

Sometimes I write to get something off my chest and other times it just feels like I must write about something that has happened - like it has to be shared.

  14. Great list. I agree with all of your reasons. Most of all, I like interacting with other writers. It is fun to read what others are writing, comment, and have a conversation. Esp. cuz mommy bloggers like your are always talking about everything that is important to me. And I often gain a new perspective on something that I might not have a chance to hear/feel/understand otherwise. And humor is always good. Knowing you are not the only one out there dealing with mountains of laundry, stained carpets, children with permanent marker tatoos, etc. Great post!

  15. I blog b/c of the happiness it brings me. I am a better wife and mother, b/c I'm getting fed inside.

In a houseful of males, who listens to me? In a small town not open to new people, who listens to me?

    My bloggy friends do.

  16. So it looks like you posted this a long time ago, but I am fairly new to blogging. I am really enjoying the fact that I get to share what I have been up to and what I have learned outside of facebook.
